From “Mahendra Singh Dhoni has come out the middle, he is a man from Jharkhand (Ranchi) and He is sent back.” to “Dhoni finishes off in a style, magnificent strike into the crowd and India lift the world cup after 28 years. The party started in the dressing room and its an Indian Captain whose been absolutely magnificent in the night of final.” These two sentences from Ravi Shastri in the commentary defines the success of man called Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
7th July 1981, the day on which Pan Singh Dhoni blessed with a Son who is going to become Superman for India. This is not a normal day for a cricket fan its day to celebrate and day to remember and cherish the moments that MSD has given to Cricket. The boy who was Goalkeeper in his school football team has now become India’s most successful captain in a game of cricket.
Dhoni came into Indian team with those Iconic Longhairs and rumors of drinking 5Liter milk in a day. But as the years gone hairs become shorter and beard becomes greyish. This is not only age effect, it’s the experience that made him mature. Dhoni receives captaincy in his early years and boy he delivered. In 2007, in the inaugural Twenty-20 Worldcup, he leads the Team India to victory and announced his arrival at ICC events. From that moment his trophy collection started. Now in 2018, if you look back then Dhoni has already achieved that no one could ever- T-20 World Cup in 2007, 50 overs World Cup in 2011, Champions Trophy in 2013, 3 IPL titles, 2 Champions League title. Under his captaincy, India has reached Top Rankings in all the three formats. What a record as Captain!
Before getting into the Indian team, Dhoni had already created his marks in peripherals of Ranchi by nonchalantly hitting sixes to some of the best fast bowlers in the district. Not only creating his dominance with the bat, he is very creative and unique with his wicket-keeping skills. He joined Railways Ranji tea and started to work as a ticket collector at the Kharagpur railway station. The journey from Ticket collector to Trophy Collector has been just fantastic. Over these years Dhoni has demolished many bowling lines with bizarre batting skills and with those arm speed. From his childhood, he was very fond of Adam Gilchrist and no wonder Dhoni has followed his idol. Not only followed but got many steps ahead. As far as I know, he has the fastest hands behind the wicket and records just proves that.
Words are not enough to describe what he has achieved so far! Dhoni has once said his favorite song is “मैं पल दो पल का शायर हूँ” and he lived in presence. Many players dreamt of mega farewells, standing ovations, grand shadings. But if look at Dhoni’s carrier, he says goodbye to test cricket just like that. No drama around. He is the very different player, I know everybody has observed this, whenever he won any trophy he just lifts it for a moment and pass on to the youngsters and stand in corner team photograph because he believes it is a team sport and it is teaming trophy. He is a successful captain not only because of the winning matches but he managed the transition between the older generation and the younger generation.
Now he has given up captaincy degree to Virat Kohli, but the leadership is in his blood and we can see it when sets up the field, giving inputs to bowlers and Kohli too. He his commands from behind stumps are hilarious by useful too. Well Bowled Kulya, Chahli dalta rahin. Ye ghoomega toh Pujara ko idhar usi keliye rakha hain, wo idhar tali bajane keliye nahi hain. Abe thoda dheere daal de ek chakka kha ke dikha.Tarak Mehta.. Dalta reh… Apart from Dhoni… Dhoni… this stump mic moments will always be remembered.
Thank you, MSD, for being Inspirations to so many across the globe. Have a happy 37th cheers.
