The IPL, believed to be the most exciting cricketing festival across the globe, has always been able to bring sheer enthusiasm among the fans. Never in its 11 years of history has it not been able to live up to the expectation that every cricket lover bestows upon it. An exciting bunch of cricketers, big bucks, a huge crowd and lots of glamour count responsible to create the aura that it does.
Has Caribbean Cricket embraced T20, leaving Test cricket?
Usually, huge roars in the stadium are reserved for the country’s star players who are a brand in themselves. But, The IPL is the only platform where overseas players have an opportunity to steal the crowd’s cheers and respect. The West Indian players make the top of the list. Baring some finger counted Aussies like Glenn Maxwell, David Warner, Shane Watson and obviously the modern Indian legends, it’s the Caribbean superstars who excite the fans to the fullest.
Characters like the Champion Bravo, Dre Russ aka Andre Russell, the Universe Boss Chris Gayle, the disguising Sunil Narine, the powerhouse Kieron Pollard have been the brand names of the IPL besides some other Indian stars. Their popularity is so enormous that fans love them more than any other foreign stars and even some of their Indian counterparts. Be it the unique celebrations, glamorous haircuts, exciting dance moves, gravity-defying fielding or outrageous power-hitting, they possess everything that will make the fans jump off their seats. Besides the glamour, they contribute to the team’s wins. Chris Gayle has made scoring with big shots his habit. Russel starts striking from the very first ball, players are still perplexed while facing Narine, Bravo’s slower balls are always deceptive for the batsman, and when Pollard starts his rare hitting, no bowler can survive his wrath. Besides, newbies like Evin Lewis, Carlos Brathwaite, etc are ready to fill in the spots of their formers.
The first ten days of this edition of the IPL has been headlined with match-altering knocks from the Caribbean imports. Russel, with his striking and Narine with his all-around effort, have won games for KKR. Chris Gayle has rained his wrath of being picked at the dusk at the auction in the form of a century and a 50, winning 2 games for KXIP. Even Lewis has already returned the favor to the Mumbai Indians with a couple of blistering knocks, and of course, the Champion DJ bravo will be remembered for his outrage against one the best death bowling sides MI in the very first match of this season.
As ever, West Indian stars never fail to be the center of attraction in the IPL. With the IPL not even reaching in its mid, fans can certainly expect a lot of explosive hitting and glamour from their Caribbean Stars.
